NORTH WEST MEETS 2008

7-9 March – Whittingham & Goosnargh Sports and Social Club – 2 nights

Clubhouse on site which we can use during the day and evening - bar open in the evenings. Hard standing and grass. The Club used to belong to a mental hospital which has now closed. Some of the buildings nearby have tiles off the roof but it is a nice area – there is a small lake in the grounds you can walk round and it is only a few minutes walk to shops and pubs. Beacon Fell is a short drive with its visitor centre and lovely walks and views. If you look on a road map you may not find Whittingham but Goosnargh should be on. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goosnargh This is an interesting website if you will be camping there because it gives the history of the hospital. http://www.whittinghamhospital.co.uk/

21-26 March – National Folk Group Meet at Thirsk – 5 nights

This is being organised by Ridings Area and should be an enjoyable meet and it is a nice area to visit. http://www.thirsk.org.uk/ If you used to watch the James Herriot series on television years ago, then don’t miss a visit to the museum based at the house he used to practice from. http://www.worldofjamesherriot.org/ There is a follow-on meet at Tadcaster.

4-6 April –West Bradford Village Hall – 2 nights

Camping next to the village hall – hard standing and a small amount of grass. An opportunity to visit the lovely Ribble Valley. Use of a small room on Friday evening for a get together and a larger room on Saturday for a dance.

17-20 April – Bradwall Green Village Hall – 3 nights

This is our AGM. Camping next to the hall with the use of it for the full meet. Jacob’s Join tea on Saturday but just bring savouries as sweets will be provided by the Golden Wedding couple. Hard standing and grass. Not far to visit Middlewich http://www.touristnetuk.com/NW/S-CHES/towns/middlewich.htm and Sandbach http://www.sandbach.gov.uk/

2-6 May – Village Hall, Siddington – 4 nights

Hall on site with use for the full meet. Hard standing and grass. Friday start because the hall is often used for elections at that time on a Thursday so they don’t take rally bookings. Various places of interest within a short drive. Few minutes walk to a mere. Normally music workshops each morning. Seeing that we aren’t having our own Easter meet this year it was decided to have the Cheese and Wine Jacob’s Join on Sunday evening here and also the Table Top sale. http://www.siddington.com/

22-27 May – Pyllau Farm, Tal y Bont – 5 nights

Flat field, no hard standing – hall within walking distance booked for Friday and Monday. Nice walks from the site and bus stop outside to take you to various places, i.e. Llandudno, Conway, Llanwrst. This is a website for Pyllau Farm under a different name http://www.conwyvalleybarn.com/ This website gives a few details about Tal y Bont http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tal-y-bont,_Conwy

27 May – 1 June – Station Campsite, Carrog – 5 nights – follow on from Tal y Bont

I like to find a new site each year and this will be our first visit to Carrog. It is a lovely area with riverside walks and is the end of the line for the steam railway from Llangollen http://www.llangollen.org.uk/ which is only a few miles away. It is a large flat field with a hard track on to it and the hall is within walking distance booked for Friday and Saturday - http://www.stationcampsite.com/

12-16 June – Dale Hey Farm, Ribchester – 4 nights

Grass with a hard track to drive on to it – lovely views from the site. Barn on site to dance in on Friday and Saturday with a concrete floor with a coating on it. The village is within walking distance, although uphill on the way back and there are nice walks from the site. You could visit the Roman Museum http://www.ribchestermuseum.org/ and find out more about the village from this site http://www.ribchesterpc.co.uk/

3-7 July – Arrowebrook Farm, Greasby – 4 nights

Flat field – can’t remember if it had a hard track on to it. Various walks from the site. Hall a couple or so miles away booked for Friday and Saturday. Lots of interesting places to visit on the Wirral. http://www.visitwirral.com/ I had hoped it would be at the same time as the Scarecrow Festival at Thornton Hough like last time we camped there, but unfortunately the festival isn’t being organised this year because of lack of support.

17-22 July – Crooklands Farm, Crooklands – 5 nights

By the side of the canal – think it slopes a bit but there is another field as well if we need it. Just a few miles from Kendal. http://www.visitcumbria.com/sl/kendal.htm Hall within walking distance booked for Friday and Saturday. Nice walks from the site.

22-27 July – Cartmel Race Course – 5 nights – follow-on from Crooklands

Cartmel is a lovely village and not far from Grange-over-Sands and also handy for visiting the Lake District and it is a lot of years since we last had a meet here. Haven’t actually seen the field we will be camping in but I am sure it will be a flat one. Nice walking area. http://www.cartmelvillage.com/

18 July – 10 August – 23 nights – Holiday Meet at Pall Mall Farm, Tywyn

See Out and About for details.

14-26 August – 12 nights – Holiday Meet at Halsall Primary School

See Out and About for details

1- September – 3 nights – Village Hall, Lower Whitley

Field with a slope – some hard standing. Camping next to the hall with a dance on Friday and Saturday. This is our Harvest Supper meet. Only a few miles to visit Northwich http://www.northwichuk.com/ and the Anderton Boat Lift http://www.andertonboatlift.co.uk/

2-5 October – 3 nights – South Shore Cricket Club, Blackpool

Large flat field with a hard track on to it. Use of Clubhouse for get together Thursday and Friday evenings and dance on Saturday – hall a bit too far to want to walk to. Don’t need to tell you much about Blackpool. Could have a look at the illuminations and go to a show, matinees normally available if you don’t want to go in an evening.
